Tourism Excellence Recognized at Cagayan Valley’s Regional Awards and Cultural Showcase
The Department of Tourism, Region 2 transformed the Governor Carlos Padilla Convention Center in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, into a hub of pride and celebration on September 27, 2024, as it gathered stakeholders from across the Cagayan Valley Region for the Regional Tourism Awards and Fashion Show. The event brought together local government units, private sector representatives, and tourism advocates to honor the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations that have played a pivotal role in advancing tourism and promoting cultural heritage throughout the region.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Governor Jose Gambito of the Province of Nueva Vizcaya, who expressed his pride in hosting this significant event that highlights the region’s collective achievements in promoting tourism development.
Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, representing Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco of the Department of Tourism (DOT), delivered the keynote address, extending his congratulations to the awardees. “The accomplishments we recognize today are a testament to Cagayan Valley’s unwavering dedication to sustainable tourism, which honors our cultural heritage and drives economic growth. I commend all those who have contributed to these exceptional achievements,” said Undersecretary Jumapao.
Regional Director Troy Alexander G. Miano of the Department of Tourism Region 2 was a driving force behind the success of the event. In his address, he underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of the region’s tourism industry. “This evening is a celebration not only of the achievements of our awardees but also of the collective vision and hard work that has brought the Cagayan Valley Region to where it is today. We are proud to witness how our shared efforts have made a significant impact, both in preserving our cultural heritage and in elevating the tourism sector,” RD Miano stated.
A key highlight of the evening was the Parade of Indigenous Woven Attires, showcasing the traditional weaves and craftsmanship of the region’s provinces and cities. The fashion show, directed by renowned international fashion designer Michael Barassi, a proud Novo Vizcayano, highlighted the rich heritage of the region’s indigenous communities. Each ensemble reflected the deep cultural narratives embedded in the weaves, embodying the stories and traditions of Cagayan Valley.
The night culminated in the recognition of individuals and organizations whose remarkable contributions have played a pivotal role in advancing tourism in the region. These honorees were celebrated for their dedication to promoting the region’s culture, natural beauty, and hospitality, bringing Cagayan Valley to the forefront of both local and international tourism.
Additionally, the event honored the nominees representing the region at the national Philippine Tourism Awards, an initiative of Secretary Frasco, further showcasing Cagayan Valley’s growing influence in the country’s tourism landscape.
