DOT Region 2 Welcomes Philippine Airlines’ Inaugural Cauayan-Manila Flight
The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2, led by Regional Director Troy Alexander G. Miano, warmly welcomed the inaugural flight of Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) Cauayan-Manila route (PR 2019) with a grand celebration at the Cauayan City Airport on January 15, 2025. Officials and passengers aboard the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 Next Generation Aircraft were greeted with traditional leis, symbolizing the region’s warm hospitality and vibrant culture.
In his remarks, Director Miano highlighted the significance of enhanced connectivity in boosting tourism and economic growth in the region. “This new route provides an essential link between Cauayan City and the nation’s capital, which will facilitate increased tourist arrivals and strengthen our local economy. It also underscores our commitment to positioning Region 2 as a top-tier tourism destination,” he said.
The event was graced by prominent figures, including Isabela Governor Rodito Albano III, Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua, Cauayan City Mayor Caesar Dy, and Echague Mayor Kiko Dy. Philippine Airlines President and CEO Captain Stanley Ng delivered an inspiring message, emphasizing PAL’s commitment to supporting regional tourism and commerce. Rabbi Vincent Ang, President of PAL Express, was also in attendance.
A series of ceremonial activities marked the occasion, including a ribbon-cutting, a ceremonial cake cutting, and the signing of the first boarding pass for the Cauayan-Manila flight. Governor Albano led a ceremonial champagne toss, wishing for the continued success and safe travels of PAL flights in the region.
With the launch of this new route, PAL reinforces its role as a key driver of connectivity and progress in Northern Luzon. The DOT remains steadfast in supporting such initiatives, ensuring that the region’s unique attractions are more accessible to both domestic and international travelers. #
