DOT Region 2 Supports Gastronomy Tourism at Isabela Makan ken Mainum Competition

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2, led by Regional Director Troy Alexander Miano, proudly graced the highly anticipated Isabela Makan ken Mainum Competition, a culinary and mixology showdown that highlights the rich flavors of the region’s gastronomic heritage.

The competition, initiated by Madam Chef Mary Ann Arcega-Dy, wife of Vice Governor Faustino Bojie Dy III, was held on January 23, 2025 at the Bambanti Village, Capitol Compound, City of Ilagan, Isabela. It brought together culinary enthusiasts, professional chefs, and beverage innovators to showcase their skills in creating dishes and drinks inspired by Isabela’s traditional flavors. The event served as a platform to celebrate the province’s diverse culinary culture, rooted in generations of tradition and creativity.

In attendance was Ms. Clang Garcia, the Philippine Ambassador of the World Food Travel Association, who further emphasized the importance of promoting food tourism as a means of fostering global connections and preserving cultural heritage.

Director Miano emphasized the importance of supporting gastronomy tourism as a driver for economic growth and cultural preservation. “The Makan ken Mainum Competition is a testament to how food and beverage can tell the story of a place. Through initiatives like this, we can showcase the unique identity of Isabela and the entire Cagayan Valley region to a wider audience while empowering local communities,” he said.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2 extends its heartfelt gratitude to the local government units, stakeholders, and event organizers for their proactive efforts in staging events like this. Moving forward, DOT remains steadfast in its mission to promote sustainable tourism and foster appreciation for the region’s rich cultural heritage through meaningful and impactful projects.#
