DOT Region 2 Celebrates Cabagan’s KKK Festival and Museum Inauguration

The Department of Tourism Region 2 (DOT R2) proudly joined the Local Government Unit of Cabagan in the vibrant celebration of the KKK Festival, an annual event that highlights the municipality’s rich cultural heritage and traditions on January 23, 2025. The DOT R2 was deeply honored to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly established Cabagan Municipal Museum, a milestone in preserving and showcasing the town’s cultural identity.

The KKK Festival, which stands for Kalesa, Kabayu, and Kalaseru, is a much-anticipated celebration that brought together residents, visitors, and stakeholders to witness the beautifully decorated kalesa – a horse-drawn carriage traditionally used by the community as a means of transportation. These kalesas, adorned with vibrant designs, were adjudged by DOT personnel and paraded through the streets, adding a touch of elegance and nostalgia to the festivities.

Highlighting the event was the inauguration of the Cabagan Municipal Museum, which was officially opened to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Cabagan Mayor Christopher Mamauag, DOT R2 Regional Director Troy Alexander Miano and other esteemed local officials. Also present were Cgayan Valley Tourism Chair Madam Ruth Padilla and DTI Regional Director Sofia Narag. The museum stands as a testament to Cabagan’s commitment to cultural preservation, featuring a wide array of artifacts and exhibits that celebrate the municipality’s unique heritage.

A centerpiece of the museum is the IRRAYA exhibit, which showcases traditional crafts, artworks, and historical items that reflect the rich and diverse culture of the first settlers of Cabagan. The IRRAYA serves not only as a tribute to the town’s ancestral roots but also as a source of inspiration for future generations to appreciate and uphold their cultural identity.

“The DOT Region 2 is proud to support Cabagan in its efforts to celebrate its cultural heritage and promote sustainable tourism. The establishment of the municipal museum and the display of IRRAYA exemplify the importance of preserving our rich history while paving the way for cultural and economic development,” said Regional Director Troy Alexander Miano during his remarks.

The DOT Region 2 remains steadfast in its mission to promote the Cagayan Valley region as a premier cultural and tourism destination. By supporting events like the KKK Festival and initiatives such as the establishment of the Cabagan Municipal Museum, the department aims to foster collaboration with local governments and communities in showcasing the best of what the region has to offer.#
