DOT Region 2 Leads Tree-Growing Activity: Efforts also Supports Restoration of Pinacanauan de Tuguegarao Water System
In celebration of Tourism Week, the Department of Tourism Region 2 (DOT R2) spearheaded a significant tree-growing activity aimed at restoring the Pinacanauan de Tuguegarao Water System to its former glory today, September 20, 2024. This initiative, part of DOT Region 2’s ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism, also serves as an intervention in the Water Quality Management Area (WACMA) efforts to rehabilitate the water system and promote environmental conservation.
The event was led by DOT Region 2 Regional Director Troy Alexander G. Miano, together with the personnel of the regional office. Held along the banks of the Pinacanauan River, the tree-growing activity underscores the department’s role not only in tourism promotion but also in environmental stewardship, particularly in maintaining the ecological health of tourist destinations.
“Our commitment to tourism extends beyond attracting visitors. We are equally invested in protecting and restoring the natural resources that make our region beautiful,” said RD Miano during the event. “Through this tree-growing activity, we aim to restore the Pinacanauan River to its pristine condition, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty and biodiversity of the area.”
The Pinacanauan de Tuguegarao Water System is a vital ecosystem, contributing to the biodiversity of the region and serving as a key tourism asset. The tree-growing initiative is one of the many steps DOT Region 2 is taking to support WACMA’s broader efforts to improve water quality and enhance the river’s ecosystem.
The tree-growing initiative is one of the key highlights of DOT Region 2’s Tourism Week celebration, which focuses on sustainable and responsible tourism practices.
As DOT Region 2 continues to lead in environmental advocacy, RD Miano reiterated that tourism and conservation go hand in hand. “Tourism can be a powerful tool for conservation, and it is our mission to ensure that the natural beauty of our region is preserved while creating opportunities for sustainable tourism.”#
